Everything on New Life In Australia is general information. It is researched carefully and checked against primary sources, but it is not advice about your situation, and it cannot be — we do not know your visa subclass, your income, your health, or your circumstances.
What we are not
Australia regulates who may give certain kinds of advice, and we hold none of those registrations:
- Not registered migration agents. Immigration assistance in Australia is restricted to agents registered with the Office of the Migration Agents Registration Authority and to Australian legal practitioners
- Not registered tax agents. Only an agent registered with the Tax Practitioners Board may prepare or lodge a return on your behalf for a fee
- Not licensed financial advisers. We hold no Australian Financial Services Licence. Nothing here is personal advice about insurance, superannuation, credit or investment, and we do not consider your objectives or needs
- Not lawyers, doctors or real estate agents
Where a decision carries real consequences — a visa application, a tenancy agreement, an insurance claim, a tax position — check the official source or pay a registered professional. That is usually cheaper than the mistake.
Information goes out of date
This site covers subjects that change constantly: visa conditions, work-hour limits, Centrelink and concession rules, transport fares, rebates, and prices for everything from rego to rent.
Each guide shows when it was last reviewed. Treat any figure as indicative and confirm it with the body that sets it before you rely on it. The most common sources worth checking directly:
- Department of Home Affairs — visas and work rights
- Australian Taxation Office — tax, TFN, superannuation
- Fair Work Ombudsman — pay rates and workplace rights
- Services Australia — Medicare and payments
- Your state road, transport and tenancy authorities, which differ in every state
Calculators and estimators
Several guides include calculators — for rego, insurance premiums, solar payback and similar. These are estimating tools built on published rates and typical assumptions. They are not quotes, they cannot see your circumstances, and the number a provider gives you will differ. Use them to understand the shape of a cost, not to budget to the dollar.
Money, advertising and independence
As at the date above, this site carries no advertising and no affiliate links, and no company has paid for coverage.
If that changes, we will say so here, label any sponsored or affiliate content clearly on the page it appears on, and keep advertisers out of editorial decisions. Our Editorial Policy spells out how.
External links
We link out often, mostly to government and institutional sources. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, accuracy or availability. A link is not an endorsement of a commercial provider.
Limitation
You use this site at your own risk, and any decision you make based on it is yours. To the extent the law allows, we exclude liability for loss arising from use of this site.
Nothing here limits rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law that cannot lawfully be excluded. See our Terms and Conditions.
Think something here is wrong? Please tell us — we would rather fix it than defend it.
